Our Mission

CITAC is focused on maintaining and enhancing open and competitive international markets for raw materials, components and finished products that are priorities to American business. All too often, manufacturers and retailers in the United States suffer when governments restrict open and accessible trade of these materials, leading to shortages, high prices, longer manufacturing lead times and increased unpredictability in global supply chains. These unfortunate consequences make many U.S. manufacturing facilities less competitive and lead to American job losses and fewer choices for American consumers. The harm to Americans is clearly greater than the benefits of protectionism.

In today’s tough economic environment, however, protectionism is on the ascent, looming as a serious threat to businesses and the economy at large. CITAC's role in giving consuming industries a role in trade policy is therefore more important than ever, given the severity of the threat. Through ongoing advocacy, communications and coalition building, CITAC ensures that its members' priority issues are discussed and their voices heard in Washington. We track the details of complex but important trade decisions and proposals and are ready at all times to lead the charge against damaging and ill-advised initiatives as they surface and, more importantly, before they are adopted.
